The week brought together speakers, attendees, volunteers and judges from across our Precinct and beyond, including international guest Steve Niederer, and interstate plenary presentations from Jason Grebely, Ricky Johnstone, Lee Nedkoff and Misty Jenkins. Our very own researchers, including early and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) and students also presented throughout the week. These presentations provided fascinating insights into infectious diseases, cancer, heart health, and immunology research.Â
St Vincent’s AMR, as part of St Vincent’s Sydney Health Innovation Precinct (SVSHIP) hosted its annual Research Week in September 2024, bringing together scientists, healthcare professionals and researchers from Precinct Partner institutions including the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, UNSW, the Nursing Research Institute and St Vincent’s Allied Health Research Unit.Â

International researcher Steve Niederer joined Australian speakers Jason Grebely, Ricky Johnstone, Lee Nedkoff, and Misty Jenkins to present insights across cancer, cardiovascular disease, immunology, and infectious diseases research. Early and mid-career researchers from across the precinct including AMR, also presented their work throughout the week, contributing to discussions about current medical research developments. The week’s highlights also included our ‘Fast Forwards’ events showcasing fast paced snippets of ongoing research projects, and our ‘Research Rumble’ where researchers presented their work in three minutes using one slide. Ministry of Health’s Kim Sutherland and journalist Natasha Robinson served on the expert panel.
The mix of established researchers and emerging talent, combined with different presentation formats across the week, created multiple opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration. These connections across institutions and research areas will help drive future medical discoveries and improvements in patient care. This collaborative event demonstrated the excellence in healthcare and medical research underway at St Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research, and highlighted how we are working together with our Precinct Partner organisations to advance medical research and patient care.
