The Clinical Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) Laboratory has a range of research priorities and achievements, including:
- Developing new theories into the causes of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases
- Discovering how synapse loss occurs (i.e. what causes the loss in connections between brain cells)
- Researching how memories are formed
- Investigating new treatment approaches to slow Parkinson’s disease and memory loss.
The CNRM team has developed a theory suggesting that there is a critical interplay between the body’s immune system and cells in the brain. They believe that fine-tuning these interactions is a path to cure for conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
The CNRM Laboratory collaborates with other Australian and international research groups to help progress the research in this area.
